What to expect leading up to your birth
I. Schedule a phone chat
This allows us to get to know one another, for me to find out if I can meet your needs, and for you to learn what it would be like to work with me.
II. Pay invoice, sign contract, complete questionnaire
I require a 50% deposit and the contract signed before I officially say you're booked. The remainder of the invoice is due before I go on call for you (week 38.) The questionnaire provides essential information and asks very specific questions that help me understand your desires so I can cater your birth story to you as best as possible.
III. Schedule an in-person meeting with you and your spouse
Meeting in person allows us to get to know one another before the big day. It also gives us time to go over the questionnaire more in depth so I have a very clear understand of your needs.
What to expect during & after your birth
I. I will arrive when you are officially in active labor.
Depending on numerous factors (location, timeline of previous births, etc) I may decide to show up slightly before your active labor starts.
II. I will focus on photographing your birth story as outlined in the questionnaire.
I will be a silent observer and take cues from your birth team and partner. I will stay up to (2) hours post birth and no more than (12) hours total.
III. I will send a sneak peek gallery
Within (48) hours, I will send a sneak peek gallery. The remainder of the photographs will be delivered within 2-3 weeks from your delivery date.

FAQ

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED AND WHAT AREAS DO You COVER?
I live in Keene, NH. I am able to comfortably commit to births happening within an hour of Keene. If there are signs your birth maybe faster, then we will discuss me arriving prior to active labor starting.
How does birth photography work?
From weeks 38-42, I will be on call for your birth. That means I do not schedule trips more than an hour or so from my home. I always have my camera gear and phone near by with a back up phone number for you to call just in case. With proper communication between you and I, I will arrive at the start of active labor.
what will you do and photograph at my birth?
While at your birth, I plan to be a passive participant. Meaning I am there to capture your birth story, not to direct, interfere, or stiffen your birth in anyway.
What I photograph is completely up to your discretion. I have a long questionnaire that will help guide you to what you want your birth story to look like through photographs. This will also help me to know, for instance, that you want the crowning moment photographed from a certain angle or what moments are very important to you for me to capture.
how will you use my photographs?
Because this is such an intimate form of photography, you get to decide if I can use them. If you grant me permission, you also get to decide what photos I may or may not use. For any photographs I have permission to use, I will use them for print and digital marketing.
why should i have a birth photographer?
I am a mama to two kiddos. One was a C-section, the other was a mandatory hospital VBAC. Their stories are so opposite but have also shaped me as a mother. I personally regret not capturing every moment of their special day. I was too worried about what I would look like or feeling exposed. Looking back, none of that mattered to me in the end. The birth process took over me and I surrendered. I wish I had photographs to look back at and remember not just how powerful my body was but all the raw emotions myself and husband had. It truly is a once in a lifetime moment.
How long does it take to receive the final edited photos?
I very much understand the anticipation of seeing your final photographs. My editing process typically takes 2-4 weeks, depending on the volume of images and the complexity of editing required. I prioritize quality and attention to detail to deliver exceptional images that exceed your expectations.
